Our answer

Most long-haul business class flights serve real champagne, usually a good non-vintage from a well-known champagne house, plus a choice of a few white and red wines and often a port or dessert wine. You’ll also find spirits, cocktails on some airlines, and non-alcoholic options.

A few things to know:

  • It changes often. Airlines rotate their champagne and wines every few months and by route, so the exact bottle depends on your flight.
  • First class steps it up. First class often pours prestige or vintage champagne that isn’t served in business.
  • Airlines pick wines for altitude. Taste buds work differently up there, so airlines choose wines with bold flavors that still taste good in the air.
  • You can check ahead. Many airlines put their menus and wine lists on their website or app, and some print the wine list on the menu card.

Don’t drink? Business class usually has good alcohol-free choices too, from fresh juices and mocktails to sparkling water and teas.

If champagne is part of the treat, tell us. We’ll let you know which airlines on your route are known for their drinks list.
