Our answer
Lots of people assume everyone in business class either has a company paying or a pile of airline miles. Plenty of travelers pay cash and still pay far less than the airline website price. These are the main ways:
- Private and consolidator fares. Airlines give some travel agencies special business class fares that are never shown on their own websites. It’s the same seat on the same flight with a normal airline ticket, just at a lower price. This is where most of the big savings come from.
- Being flexible on dates. Moving your trip by a day or two, or flying midweek, can change the price a lot.
- Being flexible on the route. Connecting through a different hub, such as Atlanta instead of New York or Doha instead of London, can be much cheaper for the same destination.
- Avoiding peak weeks. Summer, Christmas and big holidays are always the most expensive.
- Watching for sales. Airlines run business class sales a few times a year, often in January and around Black Friday.
The quickest way to see what a discount looks like on your dates is to get a quote from a business class specialist and compare it with the airline’s own price. It costs nothing, and you don’t have to book.
