Our answer
It depends mostly on one thing: do you need to sleep properly?
Premium economy is a bigger seat with more legroom, more recline, a footrest on many airlines, better food and usually two checked bags. It’s a real step up from economy, and it costs a lot less than business class. But it does not turn into a bed.
Business class gives you a fully flat bed, lounge access, priority everything and much more space.
A simple way to decide:
- Daytime flight, or under about 8 hours: premium economy is often the smart choice.
- Overnight flight and you need to work or be fresh when you land: business class is worth it.
- Ultra-long flights (14+ hours): most people find business class makes a huge difference.
One thing people don’t realize: with a private fare, the gap between premium economy and business class is sometimes much smaller than the airline websites suggest. It’s worth pricing both before you decide.
