Delta One to Rome: Nonstop Business Class from New York, Atlanta, Boston, Detroit and Minneapolis

Last checked: September 2026. Airline schedules and rules change often, so we re-check every fare before we quote it.

If you live near New York, Atlanta, Boston, Detroit or Minneapolis, you can get to Rome without changing planes. Delta flies nonstop to Rome Fiumicino (FCO) from all five, and on every one of those flights the front cabin is Delta One, Delta’s name for its business class.

We get the same handful of questions about these flights almost every week. Which cities fly all year? Does every plane have the suites with a door? How many bags can I bring home after a week of shopping in Italy? This guide answers them in one place.

Delta nonstop flights to Rome, city by city

FromSeasonGood to know
New York (JFK)Year-roundAbout 8 hr 20 min to Rome. The busiest route, with the most departure times to choose from.
Atlanta (ATL)Year-roundAbout 9 hr 25 min. Usually an Airbus A350-900 or A330-900, both with Delta One Suites.
Boston (BOS)Year-round in 2026Boston also has a Delta One Lounge, which is a nice start to an overnight flight.
Detroit (DTW)SeasonalDelta has said the 2027 season starts in early March.
Minneapolis (MSP)Seasonal, extendedCame back in 2025 after nine years away. Extended to three flights a week into January 2027.

Seattle also gets a seasonal Rome flight, which started in May 2026. If you are anywhere else in the US, the easiest option is usually a short Delta flight into one of these five cities and then the nonstop to Rome on the same ticket.

Almost all of these flights leave the US in the late afternoon or evening and land in Rome the next morning. That makes the flat bed the real reason to fly Delta One here: you want to arrive able to walk around the city, not spend the first day asleep in the hotel.

What you get in Delta One

  • A seat that turns into a flat bed. Every seat has direct access to the aisle, so nobody climbs over you at 3am.
  • Delta One Suites on the newer planes. On the Airbus A350 and A330-900 your seat has a sliding door. Older aircraft still have flat beds but no door.
  • Proper bedding. A large pillow, a duvet and a padded layer for the seat, plus a Missoni amenity kit with Grown Alchemist skincare.
  • A real dinner. A chef-designed meal with wines picked by a sommelier. On a short overnight flight many people eat in the lounge and sleep straight after take-off.
  • Faster airport. A dedicated Delta One check-in area at Delta’s hub airports, plus priority security and boarding.

Our tip: before you pay, check which aircraft flies your date. Minneapolis switched to an older A330-200 for the winter extension, which has flat beds but no doors. If the door matters to you, tell us and we will look for a date or city that has the A350 or A330-900.

Delta One baggage allowance

  • Checked bags: 2 free bags, each up to 70 lb (32 kg) and no bigger than 62 inches (158 cm) when you add length, width and height together.
  • Delta Medallion members flying Delta One can check 3 free bags at the same weight.
  • Carry-on: 1 bag up to 22 x 14 x 9 inches (56 x 35 x 23 cm) including wheels and handles, plus 1 personal item that fits under the seat, like a handbag or laptop bag.
  • Basic Business tickets (see below) come with one fewer free checked bag.

70 lb is more than most economy tickets allow, which is handy on the way home. Wine, olive oil and leather goods add up faster than you think.

Which lounge will you get?

Delta One tickets include Delta Sky Club access. On top of that, Delta has opened separate, more upscale Delta One Lounges, but only at some airports so far:

  • New York JFK: Terminal 4, the biggest one, open from early morning to late evening.
  • Boston: Terminal E near gate E13, open in the afternoon and evening when the Europe flights leave.
  • Los Angeles and Seattle also have one.
  • Atlanta: one is planned but not expected before 2028. Detroit and Minneapolis have no firm date yet, so you will use the Sky Club there.

Guests are generally not allowed in Delta One Lounges.

Watch out for Delta’s new Basic Business fares

This is the rule change most travelers have not heard about yet. Delta now sells a cheaper, stripped-back version of Delta One on some routes. You sit in exactly the same bed, but you give up a lot around it:

  • You cannot choose your seat. Delta assigns it after check-in, so a couple may not sit together.
  • From January 19, 2027, no Delta One Lounge and no Delta One check-in area.
  • One fewer free checked bag.
  • Fewer SkyMiles earned.
  • A fee to cancel, and no guaranteed full refund.

A cheap business class price on a booking site may well be one of these fares. It can still be a good deal for a solo traveler with one bag. For a honeymoon or a family trip it usually is not. When we quote you, we always say which kind of fare it is.

Arriving in Rome

  • Terminal: Delta uses Terminal 3 at Fiumicino.
  • Border control: Italy is in the Schengen area. The EU’s new Entry/Exit System now takes your fingerprints and photo the first time you enter, so allow extra time at passport control. Your US passport should be valid for at least three months after the date you plan to leave Europe.
  • ETIAS: the EU’s travel authorization for visitors from the US has been announced but was not yet running when we wrote this. Check before you fly.
  • Getting into the city: the Leonardo Express train goes nonstop to Roma Termini in about half an hour. Taxis have a fixed fare to the historic center; check the posted price at the official rank and ignore anyone offering rides inside the terminal.

How to pay less for Delta One to Rome

  • Avoid the summer peak if you can. April, May, late September and October are warm in Rome and usually cheaper to fly than June to August.
  • Look at more than one city. A short positioning flight to Atlanta or New York can open up more dates and better prices than a seasonal route.
  • Fly midweek. Tuesday and Wednesday departures are often priced lower than Friday and Sunday.
  • Think about open-jaw. Fly into Rome and home from Milan or Venice. It can cost about the same as a round trip and saves you a train back.
  • Ask a specialist. Business class fares change daily and some prices are never shown on public sites. That is what we do.

From New York JFK and Atlanta, yes, and Boston ran year-round in 2026. Detroit and Minneapolis are seasonal, so check your dates.

How heavy can my Delta One bags be?

Up to 70 lb (32 kg) each, two bags free, or three if you are a Medallion member. Basic Business gets one fewer.

Can I choose my seat in Delta One?

On a standard Delta One ticket, yes. On a Basic Business ticket, no, it is assigned after check-in.
